1970/01/23 - Record Plant Studios, New York City, New York - Band of Gypsys

January 23, 1970, Record Plant Studios, New York City, New York

Tape Log:

Villanova Junction Blues // MLK // Slow Time Blues // Country Blues // Burning Desire // Blue Suede Shoes // Freedom // Midnight Lightning // Highways Of Desire // Seven Dollars In My Pocket // Country Blues // Once I Had A Woman

The Band of Gypsys were paving a way in the music world with fresh new ideas and sounds, which was documented very heavily through the Fillmore concerts they did at the beginning of the 1970 and studio recordings suronding the 5 concert dates the band put forth. This recording date of January 23, 1970 at the historic Record Plant Studios in New York shows Hendrix and company flying through ideas, never holding back for a minute. Hendrix was now fully embracing another side to his legacy and all of the recordings that have surfaced officially and not officially prove that the Band of Gypsys was an extremely important aspect to music from 1970 and on. Check out some youtube audio only recordings of Jimi during this intense evening of jamming and rehearsing. - Erik Otis
